Kakichi is a tiling craftsman who repaired damaged roofs in Suzu City, the same prefecture, and other areas during the 2007 Noto Peninsula earthquake. He was also involved in farming, but after his mother, who was living with him, passed away in the fall of 2013, he lived alone. Hiroaki said, “Eiji is kind and caring. He’s one of the young people in this area, and if something happens, he’s the kind of person who would immediately go to help.”

Hiroaki was heading to Wajima in his car when the earthquake occurred on the 1st. The road was cut off, so he abandoned his car and walked. He was given a ride in someone else’s car, and three days later, he arrived to find his brother’s house buried in mud and mud. Since then, he has been commuting to search sites while sleeping at a nearby evacuation center. On the 20th, police and fire departments from outside the prefecture used heavy machinery to work on the area. “I’m thankful that there are other people who haven’t been found,” he said in a low voice.
